Peyronie’s DiseaseVarious diseases target the male reproductive system, but one condition that many people may not have heard of is Peyronie’s disease. In a nutshell, it is scar tissue formation in the corpora cavernosa, along the length of the penis. Although this plaque is not visible, its presence can cause the male organ to bend, interfering with success during sexual intercourse.

The causes of Peyronie’s disease

The ultimate cause of this condition is unclear, but many experts believe that it occurs as a result of trauma that causes localized bleeding inside the organ. Although the injury may go unnoticed, it can affect the functionality of the penis. It is also possible for Peyronie’s disease to be genetically inherited.

Peyronie’s disease: men at risk

A study by the National Institutes of Health shows that one percent of men have Peyronie’s disease. It mostly targets middle-aged men, yet it can happen to men of other ages as well. Furthermore, some cases suggest that men who have a family history of the disease are likely to acquire the condition.
