Leave No Stone Unturned

Having kidney stones is a very painful ordeal!  Imagine small pebbles of salt and mineral in your urine that you desperately try to pass through every time you urinate?  It is such an excruciating experience for both men and women.  So to be able to prevent the formation of kidney stones to avoid being in that situation, one must arm himself with the knowledge of the things that might cause kidney stones.

If there is an imbalance in the normal balance of substances in the body, especially water and salt, there is a chance that kidney stones might form.  The type of imbalance that you have is a clue of what type of kidney stones you may have, but most often, kidney stones are formed from the imbalance of calcium levels in the body.

The most common cause of kidney stones is when you do not drink enough water.  Your doctor telling you that you must drink at least 8 glasses of water should be taken seriously!  Not having enough water in the body may result in salt and other minerals in the body to stick together and form kidney stones.  Aside from this, kidney stones can be a consequence of an underlying medical condition that affects the normal balance of substances in the body.  Some of the conditions that could result in kidney stones are gout, inflammatory bowel disease, and Crohn’s disease.  There are some cases where some patients are just genetically predisposed to having kidney stones.  And in rare cases, this can be a result of a parathyroid disorder which causes the body to produce excessive amounts of a particular hormone that in turn increases the calcium levels in the body.
