Patients are becoming more and more aware of the risks that surgical procedures come with and every day patients that come in at the Collin County Urology prefer a less invasive procedure for their treatments.  BPH or benign prostatic hyperplasia is one of the most common procedures that we perform in our medical facility and the Prolieve Thermodilation System has allowed us to treat prostate enlargement with ease and with a very high success rate.

The Prolieve Thermodilation System is setting the standards for BPH treatments in the US.  It is a very effective treatment for BPH that is less invasive compared to getting surgery.  With the patient’s comfort and well-being in mind, Prolieve treats BPH by applying heat to the prostate while dilating the urethra.

During a treatment with Prolieve, a catheter is inserted into the patient’s urethra where microwave energy will be transmitted from an antenna in the catheter to heat up the prostate gland.  The enlarged tissues of the prostate will reduce in size as a response to the heat.  A balloon inside the catheter will then inflate to create an opening in the urethra where the prostate is.  The entire procedure will last about 45 minutes and the temperature created by the Prolieve System will be monitored via a rectal thermometer and water will be constantly streaming through the catheter to control the temperature being applied to the prostate.  This is a very safe and effective procedure for treating BPH which makes this the treatment of choice of our patients at Collin County Urology.
