Minimally invasive surgery is defined as surgery that requires a minimal amount of cutting thereby resulting in less pain and a quicker recovery. Some of these procedures can even be performed in the office without the need for anesthesia. Our surgeons are trained in many such procedures including laparoscopic surgery, laser surgery and even robotic surgery.
The newest and most advanced minimally invasive office-based procedure for BPH is now available through Collin County Urology. The Prolieve™ thermodilation system is by far the most sophisticated and effective office based procedure for the treatment of BPH. This 45 minute procedure requires no anesthesia and results in minimal if any pain. In our experience, over 90% of patients leave the office without a catheter and return to normal activities the very next day. Success has been excellent and most men have discontinued their BPH medications within 6 weeks.
In addition, two new lasers now exist for the treatment of BPH. The GreenLight™ laser and the HoLAP have both been shown to be highly effective in the treatment of BPH symptoms. These procedures are usually performed as an outpatient with minimal pain and a quick recovery. Our surgeons our certified in the use of these lasers with access to both at our affiliated facilities.
